Happy Mōhalu!!!

Sooooo I’ve been eating so many cookies. That’s it. That’s the newsletter. See you next time!

Just kidding.

Before we get into the newsletter, I just want to take a moment to say mahalo piha to all the people who have tipped me through venmo or cashapp during my livestreams. That money has really helped me out immensely during this challenging time. It really means so much to me and I am so grateful. I also wanna thank Ko’olina & Haku Collective for featuring me in their live streams. It was fun to connect to people outside of my own audience.

The past 30 moon phases have been really transformational. So much of my focus has been shifted to adapt to the new restrictions of lockdown/quarantine for Hawai’i. With the help of my family, I’ve been able to make the transition pretty easily. A lot of my time has been spent working on assignments from school. Berklee’s online courses are really great. I’ve learned a lot in such a short amount of time. The knowledge I’ve gained from school combined with knowledge shared from my friend Ekona Ravey, I’ve been able to change up the way I’m able to do my livestreams on Instagram. I’ve started a midnight stream called “Pueo Hour”. If you’re up late one night, jump in and say hello!

Even though I don’t have any gigs lined up during the month of May, I am still looking at it with excitement. This past month has really reprioritized things for me. For one, I’ve noticed how much time I spend sitting in traffic and how much it can really affect my whole day. I’ve also really loved having an entire day to learn and create; to not have somewhere to be. Normally I don’t have that kind of time and the feeling of having to rush through my reading or songwriting leads to a lot of unfinished projects. With the amount of time I’ve had, I’ve been able to see a lot of things to completion.

One thing that I do miss is going to the gym. I really enjoy lifting weights and I’ve had to find ways to stay active. I’ve never enjoyed running and a lot of the at home workouts just aren’t fun. So I’ve been taking one hour out of my day to head to the beach to swim laps. I’ve been enjoying it so much.

On this month’s Mōhalu to Mōhalu spotify playlist I chose songs that have helped me keep focused while studying and also songs that I like to play while driving to the beach to exercise.

I hope you are all safe. Sending you my love. See you on the next mōhalu.
